Bikini ReadyLocation: Atlanta, GA • 28 Mar
Spring break is here and summertime is just around the corner! Are you ready for bikini season? I’m just about there myself, but it’s not always easy!
Getting in bikini-ready shape takes some discipline. A consistently healthy diet is the most important part of being in tip-top shape. Clean eating can be difficult to decipher. What do you consider to be “clean?” I like to start with the basics: load your plate with fresh veggies and fruits and lean meat like chicken or turkey breast, grass-fed lean beef, wild-caught seafood, and eggs (and egg whites). Starches are tricky: stick with foods that are high in fiber like oats and ancient grains, and low sugar, nutrient dense starches like sweet potatoes, peas or carrots! Beware of “good fats!” They pack a lot of calories in their tiny servings. Did you know 2 tablespoons of peanut or almond butter will cost you 190 calories and 16 grams of fat??? Measure your servings! Never guess what a serving size is. If you’re still not sure, your best bet is purchasing a digital food scale. All of your serving size problems are solved!
Once your diet is squared away, strength training and cardio will help you slim down and burn lots of calories. Aim for at least 2.5 hours per week of heart rate boosting physical activity. Hiking with a friend, a jog in the park, a morning boot camp, or a quick Tabata workout are some of the many great cardio routines to add to your week. Also, hit the gym for some weight lifting two to three days a week. If you need some help with weight training, hire a personal trainer (like myself) to get you started. It will be money well spent!
An extra tip: buy some workout clothes that you love! Today, I’m wearing an Adidas tank, Nike capris, and the most comfortable running shoes I’ve ever worn, Mizuno! Amazing shoes for runners out there! For more fitness and clean eating tips, follow PeachFit on Facebook.
