The first night Cynthia (Darling Down South) and I were in Aiken, SC we stayed at The Willcox hotel. We weren’t able to stay here on Saturday night because it was booked for a wedding. However, we wanted to stay at The Willcox even if it was just for one night after reading the numerous amount of awards (see here) this hotel has received. In case you may not know, The Willcox was recently named by Travel + Leisure as the #7 Best Hotel in the World for 2016.
Right before we left Atlanta, I picked up this cute orange romper from Topshop (on sale for $35). I’m all about comfort for a road trip and this romper definitely fit that qualification for my travel outfit. I originally wore my Tory Burch sandals in the car when I was driving and changed out of those to a pair of Tory Burch wedges when we arrived at the hotel. I paired my outfit with some gold and white jewels from Kendra Scott.
When we got to the room, I was so excited to see that there was a stool for me to get in and out of the bed. I may be 5 ft 6 in, but the bed was pretty high off the ground– well at least for me lol… Or as Soldier Boy said “hopped up off tha bed, turn ma swag on, took a look in tha mirror said “wassup?” Let’s just say it was easier for me to hop up off the bed y’all.
The exterior of the hotel was very antebellum with both neoclassical and dutch colonial touches. The interior was an absolute dream. I felt like I was teleported to a hotel in the English or Scottish countryside, since the furnishings were absolutely dashing with coffered ceilings and a stone fireplace in the lobby, mahogany walls throughout the hotel, and even a tartan rug in the pub area. You may not think that the furnishings go with the exterior of the hotel at first. However, the interior decor really fits the area well, since Aiken, SC is big into equestrian sports and hunting. There was even an old telephone booth–and yes, the phone actually worked. And yes, I called collect, since I don’t ever have any change on me lol.
The room rates were very afforable and start at $189–I was very impressed. If you’re looking to go somewhere for a weekend getaway or even for a night, then I recommend staying at The Willcox, since it’s really well priced. We stayed in one of the junior suites, since it was the only room available when we booked.
Our room had a nice sitting room area off of the bedroom. The bathroom even had marble counter tops and a marble trim around the bathtub. My favorite items in the room were definitely the bed frame and the ikat print sofa–which were to die for!
The bed was so comfortable that I actually did not want to ‘hop up off the bed’ in the morning.
The Willcox has really good amenities: a spa and pool. Sadly, I wasn’t able to capture the pool area for you guys because we didn’t make it there until it was dark. The spa area looked really nice though–I wish we had one more day at the hotel, so we could have had a nice relaxing spa day.
The restaurant at The Willcox is also an award winning restaurant as well. We ate there for dinner on Friday and for brunch on Saturday (we missed the cut off time for the continental breakfast). The food was really good. For dinner, I order the Butcher’s Cut of the day, steak with cheesy patatas bravas, which was exceptional. For brunch, I ordered something nice and light– the egg white omelet with asparagus, English peas and ricotta, which was served with multi-grain toast.
The service was exceptional. The staff was very friendly as well. Everyone really went out of their way to make sure that our stay was nothing short of fabulous. We bought a bottle of champagne and we asked for a bucket of ice when we checked in. I was impressed with how quickly they brought the ice up to us.
I highly recommend staying at The Willcox. Their accomodations, food, and service are all exceptional and definitely lives up to all of the awards that this hotel has received. I will definitely be staying here again.
